BE RESPECTFUL TO YOUR NEIGHBORS!!!
Wetherby Park is a great asset to our neighborhood. The park itself is 24.3 acres and includes many amenities that are available to all. The amenities include: play equipment, a picnic shelter with electrical outlets, picnic tables, cooking grills, water, restrooms, open play field, playground softball diamond, soccer field, basketball courts, great hiking, jogging and biking paths and garden plots that are rented out each year.
The Park Shelter is available to rent from the Parks & Recreation Department. The Wetherby Park Shelter holds 48 people and for a fee of $10, you can rent the shelter for 5 hours. To rent the shelter you can: 1) call (319) 356-5110 or 2) go to the city web site (http://www.icgov.org/parks/index.htm) and follow the directions there.
Park Rules can be found in Chapter 9 of the City Code of Iowa City. Here is a highlight of the rules that we should all be mindful of:
1. No one is allowed in the park between the hours of 10:30 PM and 6:00 AM
2. Unauthorized Use of Buildings: Occupy any shelter house or building or recreation area, which has been reserved by others. Also, it is prohibited to install any unauthorized reserved sign in any shelter, building or recreation area.
3. Motor Vehicles and Traffic: no person shall operate motorized vehicles on other than park roads and parking areas.
4. Pets: no person shall bring, cause or permit any pet to enter into any park or playground unless such pet is on a leash or confined in a vehicle or some type of acceptable cage or carrier.
5. Alcoholic Beverages: no person shall possess or consume any beer or alcoholic beverages in any park or playground.
6. Golf: no person shall practice golf in any park or playground.
Please follow the rules and make Wetherby Park a great place for all!
*Wetherby Steering Committee * We need your help! For the last six years Wetherby Neighborhood Association has been successfully working to make positive changes in our neighborhood. As all of us know, the only way that something gets done is when someone does it. Our accomplishments have been positive and numerous.
Securing approximately $45,000 in grants for the neighborhood
The continuing renovation of Wetherby Park (trees, shelter, entry sign, benches, prairie plantings, trails )
Computers for the Broadway Neighborhood Center
Traffic control in the neighborhood
Additional street lighting
Community Safety Office
Additional safety patrols
Crosswalks for Highway 6
Saturday Night Drive-In
Take back the night
Success after School
Fighting rezoning not consistent with our district plan
Publishing newsletters
Creating a web site for neighborhood news
Bringing our message of safety and neighborhood to criminal offenders
All of these things have been accomplished because people who care about our neighborhood have volunteered their time and talents to make sure we all will have a better place to live. The Wetherby Steering Committee needs your help. Two of our long time members are moving away and without that extra help future accomplishments could go undone.
The time commitment is not great, maybe 20 hours per year. The rewards are huge. The sense of accomplishment is great. Please make a difference in our neighborhood by volunteering to be a member of the Steering Committee and have a voice in our future.
